19-year-old Fortune Mvuleni Mbopo’s mission is to teach and instil self-confidence in teenagers today, in order to help them prepare for a better future as leaders in society.
The teenager completed her matric in 2016 at Grenville High School in Mooinooi, North West, where she is from.
In that same year, she founded “InspireATeen_SA” when she realised that opportunities in the platinum town were few and far between for herself and her peers. The lack of projects or opportunities where young people could get together and work towards their goals was what led her to founding the organisation.
She said a lot of her peers ended up drinking alcohol or taking drugs to pass the time. Her organisation hopes to change that, by developing young people to be the leaders of tomorrow, carrying the spirit of Ubuntu, as well as ensuring equal standards of education for all.
Mbopo is currently studying at the University of Johannesburg, is involved in community engagement and works as a project leader for Gift of the Givers.
