Jerome ‘Slim’ du Plooy
Jerome “Slim” du Plooy, 30, is an actor, MC and philanthropist.
As a member of Soweto Kliptown Youth (SKY), a non-governmental organisation that provides an array of services and support to neighbourhood children, Du Plooy caught the attention of NBA Africa while playing basketball for the SKY basketball team. They put him through school and paid for his tuition at Boston Media House.
In 2017, he opened the Slim Cares Foundation with the aim of helping and inspiring young people who grow up in impoverished circumstances. Inspired by NBA athletes who dedicate their lives to changing and uplifting others, and with the belief that “a candle does not lose its flame through lighting another”, Jerome was driven to give back to the community. His work includes feedings schemes, Christmas parties and giving back to the community.
Through partnering with Boston City Campus, his foundation has awarded more than R200 000 worth of bursaries to underprivileged students. He is passionate about music and sports and believes that both could be used as a tool to inspire and encourage others to reach their dreams.
