Kgotso Hope Lekau, 19, is a cancer survivor who is using his second chance at life to connect young Africans to each other, so that they can use their talents to transform the continent.
Lekau founded an NGO, New Generation International, at the age of 16. He has received acknowledgment from the Western Cape government as a Peer Educator and is on the provincial education department’s representative council of learners.
His leadership skills have led to him being selected as the Southern Africa Regional Leader for the Global Youth Leaders Forum â€“ a youth initiative which nurtures young people for global leadership.
The Cape Town-based teen organises outreach programmes for schools, hospitals, youth centres and shelters. He reaches out to schools and supplies them with Christian and youth empowerment material, helps run an after-school programme and mentors about 30 teenagers.
He visits hospitals and ministers to young people about God’s love and organises supplies for those who have lost their homes due to fires. He adopted a homeless shelter for 60 teenagers, providing them with mentorship, as well as much needed physical amenities.
