Kwandile Mhlaba Sikhosana, 27, is co-founder of the Daveyton Book Club which has established 13 libraries and book clubs across the country. The book club has collected two million books through sponsors and establishes mobile libraries to distribute them at affordable prices. Sikhosana’s goal is to address illiteracy by establishing mini-libraries and book clubs for disadvantaged communities through partnerships with community developers across the country.
The organisation also hosts various campaigns, from feeding the homeless and clothing street kids, to providing free basic project management training, computer skills and entrepreneurship.
Apart from the book club, Kwandile is also part of a major initiative trying to establish a University in Ekurhuleni, proposing the redevelopment of a facility in Brakpan into a university campus. The project has just passed the feasibility study stage.
Sikhosana has represented South Africa at the AU Youth Parliament, British Parliament and the Youth To Youth Summit in Dubai.
