Marcelle du Plessis

Marcelle du Plessis, 30, founded “Lavender in Lavender Hill” in 2012 to empower the community to cultivate their own lavender, so as to make soaps and other beauty products they can sell at a profit.

Marcelle specifically started Lavender in Lavender Hill to improve the quality of life of Cape Town residents through opportunity creation and education.

All Lavender in Lavender Hill products are handmade by local community members, ensuring they can generate an income. 15% of the company’s net profit is ploughed back into the community of Lavender Hill through education sessions, skills training and the donation of plants.

Marcelle also helps the Mdzananda Animal Clinic in Khayelitsha, Cape Town, running the communication and fundraising of the organisation. Their work makes a difference by trying to ensure that pets don’t sleep outside in the cold, by placing them with loving owners.
