Matreki Mabizela, 33, from Afrikaskop in the Free State devotes her time to developing soccer referees. She is a referees instructor and assessor in the Maluti-a-Phofung district, which includes the towns of Harrismith, Kestell and QwaQwa.
Mabizela has 30 referees under her mentorship, five of whom are female, making her a leader in the province with regards to the number of female referees she trains. She has more than 40 clubs under her administration.
She has been appointed CEO of Mphatlalatsane United FC and hopes to establish a football academy in the rural Afrikaskop area, that only has one school.
Mabizela holds workshops, lectures and weekly classes, where she trains referees in the laws of the game. She borrows the tools she needs to conduct the classes and travels on her own dime to where she is needed.
She is passionate about soccer and established her own team called the Mighty Queens FC when she was 14 years old. Her dream is to become a FIFA referees instructor and to introduce more women to the male-dominated sport.
Mabizela is studying towards a BTech qualification in Project Management.
