Naledi Chanthunya

After experiencing domestic abuse, seeing her mother nearly killed, and having to flee for safety with her brother, 13-year-old Naledi Chanthunya still manages to excel at school and inspire her classmates.

The emotional trauma that the teenager experienced, which included her family struggling financially, has motivated her to rise above her circumstances.

Naledi is the deputy head girl at Swan Prep School in Randburg, Johannesburg, and receives distinctions in all her subjects.

She enjoys arts and culture and participates in almost every sporst code the school offers. She is also a confident public speaking. According to her teacher, Liza Komlosy, she shows compassion and love towards her peers, especially those who are vulnerable around her. She has a mature and positive outlook on life and never utters a mean word towards another learner. She is one of her schools’ star pupils.
