From corporate high performer to sport federation president, entrepreneur and social activist, Nathaniel Japhta, 31 – known to his friends and colleagues as Nate – is doing just about everything. In his corporate career as a Chartered Accountant, Japhta is a consultant to a leading pharmaceutical company in South Africa. He is also the recipient of the performer award for leading the company to realise savings of more than R100m in less than 12 months.
His dream project was founding PRO226 Africa, an organisation active on the Cape Flats that tackles social and education problems by linking corporate individuals and university students to under-performing schools. He started a mentorship and academic tutoring platform, as well as a flagship event that links school learners to university students using basketball. He recently also founded the PRO226 Sports Agency that gives talented sportspeople opportunities in Europe and America. His organisations are proud partners with AYMN, NBA Africa and EX NBA players.
He was recently elected president of the Cape Town Basketball Federation, testament to his outstanding work as president of Heideveld Basketball Club.
Japhta challenges other young professionals, especially CAs to use their privileged positions to change the plight of those less fortunate. He tutors Maths and English at schools requiring intervention.
