Niel van Deventer

Niel van Deventer, 34, from Hartebeespoort Dam, in 2016 became the youngest producer to ever win a South African Film and Television Award (SAFTA) and is currently developing Jacques Pauw’s book The President’s Keepers into a drama series.

Van Deventer won the SAFTA in 2016 for his highly acclaimed film, Dis ek, Anna, which addresses the issue of child abuse. 2018 will see him producing a film addressing mental illness, as well as developing Pauw’s book into a drama series to “further shine the spotlight on the atrocities of Jacob Zuma’s regime and to help ensure that we know what happened”.

His nominator Gawie Myburgh says that Van Deventer does not shy away from controversies, as long as it serves the purpose to better our country and society.
