Shrikant Peters, 31, is a qualified medical doctor who specialises in Public Healthcare Medicine and has a specific interest in improving the quality of healthcare in the public sector.
After spending five years studying for a degree in medicine, Peters used his spare time during his internship and community service years to study for a second degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics.
He was invited to Parliament to give a presentation on the establishment of a National Public Health Directorate. Shrikant also writes about improving the healthcare system and has written articles for news websites on similar themes. He is passionate about bettering healthcare in under-served areas.
The areas he is most passionate about are quality improvement, systems thinking and healthcare advocacy, in response to the socio-economic determinants of health and the political trajectory of South Africa. He has worked at Addington, Mahatma Gandhi, Eerste River and Hillbrow hospitals. He obtained his Masters in Public Health and currently works at the Western Cape’s Public Health Registrar.
